1. Delineation of site-specific management zones based on soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) measurement combining traditional soil sampling method

Site-specific management requires the identification of treatment areas based on homogeneous characteristics. The designation of subfield regions is challenging because of complex correlations appearing in spatial variability of soil properties and nutrient concentrations.  The research was conducted on two neighbouring fields (48 ha and 15 ha) in Fejér county, Hungary. Soil ECa mapping was carried out on 22 October, 2019 and soil samples were taken on 15 November, 2019.... I.M. Kulmany, V. Vona, M. Vona, L. Szekeres, L. Bede, G. Milics, B. Kovacs

2. SmartAfriHub for SmartAgriculture capacity buidling in Africa

Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) are multi-actor ecosystems that support farming communities in their digital transformation by providing a broad variety of services from a one-stop shop. DIHs purpose is to  provide a social space for community of practices;  provide access to digital technologies and competencies; provide access to infrastructure and tests digital innovations (“test before invest”); provide development playground... 3. Irrigation Water Management for Potato crop under Pivot Irrigation System using Remote sensing techniques

When water application records low efficiency, the water losses increased. Irrigation systems often ignore soil variability and water applied uniformly on the field; hence, the water losses amplified. Which means more water application, more energy demand, and more money expenses. El-Salhia region contains a big agricultural farm located at the South Eastern of Nile delta. The field NO 34 was chosen to be investigated under the pivot central sprinkler irrigation system which cultivated with...

4. Application of precision agriculture technologies in grazing: example of goats browsing in forest rangelands of Northern Morocco

The aim of this study was to characterize patterns of grazing behavior of goats in a Mediterranean forest rangeland. We conducted a one-year study in the Chefchaouen region, Northern Morocco, during two contrasting seasons (spring and summer) using new technological tools. Eight goats were simultaneously fitted with GPS collars and sensors for 3 days during each season. A calibration study and classification tree analysis were used to predict other grazing activities of goats (eating, walking,... Y. Chebli, S. El otmani, M. Chentouf, J. Hornick, J. Cabaraux

5. Photogrammetrically Assessed Smallholder Pineapple Fields in Ghana Using Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems

Ultra-high-resolution imagery taken by small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS, drones) has been proven beneficial for the monitoring of agricultural crops in conventional farming especially in the context of precision farming. For smallholder pineapple cultivation, the use of sUAS imagery is still sparsely evaluated. However, technical developments in low cost sUAS-sensor combinations make assessments of agricultural areas by service providers more and more affordable for Africa. In this study,... M. Hobart, E. 6. Using Precision Technologies to Monitor the Grazing Activities of Goat in a North African Woodland

In the north of Africa, browsing on natural pastures is the main source of feed for domestic goats. Livestock farming, particularly grazing goats, constitutes the prevalent agricultural activity in the mountainous areas of Morocco. Data on animal behavioral activities are essential for understanding their feeding and their interaction with the environment in order to define the optimal management intervention strategies. The recent development of precision farming technologies and the increasing... Y. Chebli, M. Chentouf, J. Cabaraux, S. El otmani

7. Evaluating Soil Organic Matter Under a No-Till System Using Digital Sensors (EM38 and MSP3)

Agriculture, especially in no-till systems, plays a crucial role in ensuring global food security. The pressure on agricultural lands due to a growing population and climate change necessitates innovative solutions. Proximal soil sensing using electromagnetic induction (EMI) and electrical conductivity (ECa) sensors has gained prominence. These technologies provide rapid, non-destructive measurements of soil properties, offering advantages over remote sensing and laboratory analyses. In... H. Hajjaj, K. Ibno namr, E. Abdellah , C. 8. Optimizing Maize Production Through Minimum Tillage in Conservation Agriculture Systems: Evidence from Malawi's Lowlands

Sustainable intensification in agricultural systems has been implemented and promoted across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as a strategy for addressing low crop productivity often resulting in widespread food and nutritional insecurity. This study sought to assess the productivity potential of conservation agriculture (CA) cropping systems and associated crop establishment techniques in terms of grain, protein and energy yield. An on-station trial was implemented at Chitala Research Station in Malawi... D. Nyamayevu, I. Nyagumbo, W. Liang , R. Li
